Active learning in Ms. Ellis’s kindergarten class! 📚
Students partnered up for Turn & Talk conversations, using story element icons and gestures to retell a story. These engaging discussions help our youngest learners develop comprehension, speaking, and listening skills while having fun. 💙💚

🧪 Mix It Up! 🔬
Ms. Walton’s 5th graders had a great day in the lab exploring mixtures! Students put their science skills to work combining and separating mixtures based on the properties of matter. Hands-on learning at its best! 💙💚

🎭 Introducing Stinger Theatre! 🎭
Meet RMS’s beginning drama troupe, Stinger Theatre! These budding thespians are already strengthening their ensemble skills while learning the basics of drama and theatre history.
Throughout the year, students will explore pantomime, improvisation, character development, line memorization, monologue and scene work, and backstage production skills.
Then comes the big finale! 🎬 During second semester, Stinger Theatre will select a play, bring it from page to stage, and present their production!
The stage is set for a great year with these thespians! 🎭💙💚

🎶 Meet Our Newest Singers — The Sing Rays! 🎶
The Sing Rays are made up primarily of our 6th graders, along with some new upper-grade singers who are joining the RMS vocal music family!
Right now, they’re building their skills in sight-singing rhythm and melody while developing healthy vocal techniques and learning to sing together as an ensemble.
And clearly, their director has music on his mind… not a folder on his head. 😂🎼
We can’t wait to hear what this group has in store! 💙💚

🥞 Fairy Tales, Tall Tales & Pancakes! 🥞
Ms. Napier’s 2nd graders wrapped up their study of fairy tales and tall tales with a delicious culminating activity! Students enjoyed pancakes while retelling the larger-than-life adventures of Paul Bunyan. 📚🪓
Nothing like bringing a tall tale to life with a stack of pancakes! 💙💚

☀️🧢 Science meets creativity in Ms. Napier’s 2nd grade class!
Students were given paper plates, paper towels, paper cups, spoons, clothespins, string, and aluminum foil and challenged to use their knowledge of the properties of matter to decide which materials would work best to create a hat that could protect them from the sun.
They planned, designed, built…and the results were pretty fantastic! 😎☀️ We love seeing our Rays put their science knowledge to work through hands-on problem solving!

🇺🇸 Government gurus in the making!
Ms. Davidson’s 5th graders were hard at work reviewing for tomorrow’s U.S. Government assessment. From the Constitution and amendments to the branches of government, these Rays are putting their knowledge to the test and making sure they’re ready to shine tomorrow! 📚⭐🇺🇸

A little sweet treat for our amazing bus drivers! 🚌💙💚
Getting our students to and from school safely each day is no easy job, and we are so grateful for the patience, care, and dedication of our transportation team. Thank you for all you do for our Rays! 🌊
You keep us rolling, and we appreciate you! 💙💚

Do you know the music terms for "soft" and "loud"? Ask a 1st grader... they know! Just another fun day in music class! 🎶 🎵

🎶 From the Principal’s Office to the Band Room! 🎶
Mrs. Lomascolo returned to her musical roots today when she popped into Mr. Martinez’s 8th Grade Band class and asked if she could join in! Before moving into special education and eventually administration, Mrs. Lomascolo spent 10 years teaching band. 🎼
Mr. Martinez handed her a flute, and while she was admittedly a little rusty, she picked up a brand-new piece called “Frogs” and sight-read it right alongside our 8th graders! 🐸🪈
Turns out, some skills never completely leave you! 💙💚🎶

🧲 Magnetic Minds at Work! 🔬
Over the past two days, Ms. Porter’s 4th graders have been busy investigating magnetism and the properties of matter! Through hands-on exploration, students tested, observed, and discovered how different materials interact with magnets.
Science is always better when you can get your hands on it! 💙💚

🍍 Did you know pineapple is Mr. Faust’s FAVORITE fruit?! 🍍
Neither did we.
And, to be completely transparent… we actually have no idea if that’s true. 😂 But once someone said it, we decided to fully commit to the narrative.
So, the RMS staff showed up in their finest pineapple attire 🍍, collected an impressive assortment of pineapple-themed treasures, and gave Mr. Faust’s office a little tropical makeover. 🌴🍍
Fresh pineapple? Yep.
Canned pineapple? Of course.
Pineapple décor? Naturally.
Staff dressed like pineapples? You know it.
Mr. Faust questioning every decision that led him to this moment? Absolutely. 😂
Is pineapple actually his favorite fruit? Who knows.
Is it now? It better be. 🍍🤣
Just another perfectly normal day with the RMS family. 💙💚

Tap it. Say it. Blend it. READ it! 👏📚
Ms. Britner’s 1st graders are building strong readers one sound at a time with UFLI phonics! 🔤✨ These Rays are tapping, blending, and reading their way to success! 💙💚

📚 Digging Deeper into Personal Narratives!
Ms. Hatcher’s 4th grade ELA students used their note catchers to dig into the elements of a personal narrative. Students identified story elements, examined character perspectives and feelings, and analyzed the theme—all while using evidence from the text to support their thinking. ✏️📖
Building strong readers and thoughtful thinkers, one story at a time! 💙💚

🎶 Mozart in 2nd Grade! 🎶
Ms. Palmer’s 2nd grade music students put their listening skills to the test with Mozart’s Rondo Alla Turca! 🎼 Students listened carefully for changes in the music and used paddles to identify the different sections and recognize its musical form.
Active listening + a little Mozart = music learning in action! 🎵👏

🧠 Seeing Through Someone Else’s Eyes!
Ms. Davidson’s 5th graders put their critical-thinking skills to work by responding to scenarios from the perspectives of different characters. Students considered how a character’s experiences, thoughts, and feelings can shape the way they view and respond to a situation.
A great way to build perspective, empathy, and deeper understanding of characters! 📚✨ #RaysUp #ExcellenceInEveryRay
